Meet Rex our tribute fund pup

Setting up a tribute fund to name a puppy in memory of a loved one can be a wonderful way to remember them. It is also incredibly special because it helps to change the life of someone with sight loss forever.

When Christine's mother passed away, Christine wanted to name a puppy in her memory so she set up a tribute fund to help her reach her goal. Yvonne was a passionate supporter of Guide Dogs so Christine felt it was a fitting way to commemorate her mother.

There was only ever going to be one name chosen for their first guide dog puppy - Rex. Christine explains why: "When Mum was five, she had a very bad accident and spent the next five years lying on her back in hospital. When she came out, her mother had remarried; she had new siblings, no friends and no education. Her only friend was her pet German shepherd, Rex."

Now a German shepherd guide dog has been named Rex and recently Christine went to meet him. She says: “Mum would be so proud. I'm sure she knows that her first, beautiful German shepherd lives again. May Rex and his new owner have many wonderful years together.”

Inspired by her mother's memory, Christine is leaving a gift in her Will to name three more guide dog puppies in memory of her own pet dogs. She says: ”I love animals and I'm so glad my money can go to one that will be someone's eyes.”

Our tribute funds are used by many to commemorate their loved ones, and there are many ways these gifts can be used to honour their memory such as naming a puppy, or dedicating a brick at one of our memorial pathways.

If you'd like to set up a Tribute Fund you can donate as little or as much as you'd like, whenever you like. The Tribute Fund is easy to set up and will stay open as long as you wish. Contributions can be made to the Fund in many ways such as direct debit, one-off donations on special occasions or through fundraising events. Friends and family can also contribute to these Funds.
