250 Challenge
Streamers, gamers, creators: we need YOU! Take on the 250 Challenge and help change the game for the 250 people who are told that they’re losing their sight every day.
What is the 250 Challenge?
The 250 Challenge is our epic new gaming and streaming fundraiser which launched on International Guide Dog Day (24 April). It’s all about playing or streaming your way, while taking on a fun challenge involving the number 250!
From online gaming to playing board games with friends, having fun with your Twitch community to going live with a creative challenge on social media, there are so many ways you can get involved and raise vital funds for people living with sight loss.
Why should I take part?
Every day 250 people in the UK are told they’re losing their sight. It can be devastating. People with a vision impairment are more likely to encounter depression, loneliness, and unemployment. Guide Dogs helps people with sight loss live the life they choose, but we need vital funds to do this. That’s why we need you to be a game changer and take on the 250 Challenge.

Support people with sight loss
By taking on the 250 Challenge for Guide Dogs, you’ll be helping us to provide vital services to people with sight loss, allowing them to:
- Live actively – our guide dogs and specialist teams help people get out and about with confidence, going wherever school, work, or play takes them – and knowing that sight loss won’t hold them back.
- Live independently – we provide expert advice and life skills training to give people the freedom to live life on their own terms, in their own way, so they can achieve their hopes and ambitions.
- Live well – we support people through the emotional and practical challenges of sight loss, as well as introducing them to an inspiring community of people with similar experiences.
Freddy's story
Freddy was born with Leber congenital amaurosis, which severely limits his vision except for some light perception. In 2022, when he was starting to prepare for university, Freddy got the news that he was being partnered with guide dog Tyson!
Freddy said, “It’s going to make such a massive difference. I’m planning to live alone in a hall of residence at uni. And obviously Tyson will be with me, he is enabling me to live away rather than at home.”
Freddy and Tyson have since gone off to university together and are settling in well.
