Ready, set... Fund Race!
Make a difference with a Guide Dogs assembly and sports challenge that everyone can enjoy
Fund Race is a fun and simple way to raise money for Guide Dogs, whilst also learning about sight loss with the launch of our new assembly downloadable tools including inspiring videos of young people sharing their lived experience.
What is Fund Race?
Fund Race starts important conversations about sight loss and inclusion in schools and youth groups.
- Start with our diversity assembly (adapted for primary or secondary schools) all about inclusion and our charity, featuring inspirational stories from young people with vision impairment.
- Continue the learning experience with our pack activities, making inclusivity pledges.
- Put this into action with our sporting challenge! Enjoy a track race or obstacle course with a twist - every participant is blindfolded and uses a rope or partner as a guide. A fun and simple way to make a sport activity inclusive while also building understanding about sight loss in the next generation.

Why host a Fund Race?
Fund Race raises vital funds to support our life-changing work, but it is also a great way to incorporate learning and inclusive activities into your sports day, PE lessons, outdoor learning sessions or charity events. Youth groups have also used it in achieving badges.
We incorporated Fund Race into our annual sports competition, which the Brownies all loved and used as part of their Charities badge.
How to take part
- Download your free schools pack with everything you need for an inspiring assembly and event.
- Plan a date for your Fund Race.
- Spread the word – make sure everyone knows about your efforts to promote accessibility and inclusion.
- Ask for a donation to take part in Fund Race. You could even use our resources to set up a drink or cake stand to raise money at your event.
- Pay in your fundraising so we can continue making a massive difference to the lives of children and young people.

How your fundraising helps
In the UK today, there are around 28,000 children who have a vision impairment. With the right skills, tools and adaptations, children with sight loss can do the same things as everyone else. Every penny raised through Fund Race makes a difference for young people with vision impairment.
- 50p could feed a buddy dog for a day.
- £29 could pay for mobility training with one of our Habilitation Specialists to support a child and their school for an hour.
- £48 could buy a child a custom large-print book through our CustomEyes Books service.
Guide Dogs have made me these books and it’s just like normal books, like Harry Potter! It’s really helpful and the font’s bigger and the paper is yellow. It just makes it easier to see.
